About Birthe

Hi there! I am Birthe, a 28-year-old communication manager from Belgium. On my days off, I like to explore new places, both far away and closer by, on day trips or during overnight stays.

With this blog I want to share my passion for travel with you, as there is nothing I like to talk about more!

Why Cities and Seasides?

Both a city and a seaside town hold a special place in my travel heart. When I was little, we used to go to Blankenberge, a Belgian seaside town, every summer. It’s where I made my first – and some very fond – travel memories.

The place where I was first struck by wanderlust, however, was Barcelona. I was there about ten years ago with my mom. It was my first ever citytrip and it’s the place where I realised how much there is to see in the world. From that day, I wanted to discover more!

While my love for citytrips hasn’t faded and the thought alone of walking along the seafront gets me excited, I visit a wider variety of places on my travels nowadays. From the sea over canyons to mountains. From the most picturesque villages over bustling metropolises. I love it all and I want to share it with you.

5 facts about me

  • I have a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a Master’s degree in Multilingual Communication. Apart from my love for travel, my passion for writing and languages were two important reasons to start this blog. As English is one of the languages I majored in and I don’t use it in my everyday job, I decided to write in it, so it doesn’t become too rusty.
  • Despite being born and raised in Belgium, I’m not a huge fan of fries or the ‘frituur’ (local fries restaurants many Belgians go to once a week). I make up for this lack of patriotism with my preference for all things chocolate, though. And despite not being a huge fan, I do believe every tourist in Belgium should try fries from a ‘frituur’.
  • My favourite country thus far is Italy. It has everything: marvellous cities, lovely coastal towns, great food, the Meditteranean sun and beautiful nature.
  • When I’m not discovering places physically, you can often find me flipping through inspirational travel books. If anyone is looking for a present to get me, a coffee table book I can dive into during my armchair travels is bound to make me happy.
  • My other major hobby? Playing handball! Apart from that, I like watching series and having fun with my friends.
